On Field Physiotherapy

On field physiotherapy provides the link between the clinic and your place on the pitch, court or field. Individualized sessions incorporate the essential principals of rehabilitation and sports conditioning to optimize performance and reduce the risk of re-injury. Clients will get to work one on one or in small groups with physiotherapist Trevor Morton to improve neuromuscular training, agility, speed, strengthening and conditioning specific to his/her sport and position of play. Techniques and principals of warm-up and cool down are taught to allow clients to effectively self-manage injury risk reduction. For those athletes looking for the optimal return to sport post-injury, on the field physiotherapy offers the best route to full return to sports participation. Details: Sessions run 45-60 minutes. Available Tuesday and Thursday 3-5pm, Wednesday 9-11am

Bike fitting

From occasional riders to commuters to professional competitors, an optimally positioned seat provides maximal comfort and performance and is important for avoiding injury. At LVOSP, we observe and document your bike setup and make the necessary adjustments in combination with a detailed physical examination.

Running and gait analysis

We combine information from full-body functional muscle/joint testing and video gait analysis to help athletes move more efficiently and to identify posture-related or movement-related problems. We create individualized programs involving muscle strengthening and flexibility, changes to locomotive techniques, recommendations for footwear and orthotics, and manual and soft tissue therapy treatments.

PIPE program for prevention of ACL injuries

Our physiotherapists have designed our own ACL PIPE (Prevent Injuries & Performance Enhancement) exercise program to help athletes avoid anterior cruciate ligament injuries. ACL injuries can require surgery followed by months of rehabilitation, and female athletes are five times more likely to suffer an ACL injury. All exercises are custom designed to also improve athletic performance, and participants are supervised by our kinesiologist. We recommend this program for athletes age 10 to adult who play a sport that involves cutting or twisting movements such as soccer, basketball, skiing, rugby, football, or volleyball. The ACL PIPE program is available for individuals or groups.

Injury prevention and sport-specific training for individuals

Our prevention programs target strengths and weaknesses based on the individual’s particular activities and abilities. We provide a comprehensive assessment, diagnose any problems, and perform any pre-exercise rehabilitative procedures as necessary. The prevention exercises complement the individual’s athletic and occupational activities. Prevention is a growing aspect of our work as more and more people follow the maxim, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Our sport-specific training programs go beyond general conditioning to focus on improving power, agility, and whole-body co-ordination in a specific sport. These programs provide personalized analysis and customized exercises to improve an athlete’s performance in-season or pre-season. These programs are for any athlete who wants to get the most out of their body, whether their sport is skiing, running, triathlon, hockey, baseball, or any other activity.
